English Proverbs 79 - 81


The following are common English proverbs and short meanings and explanations in Kurdish, leave a comment if you know an equivalent Kurdish proverb for each.

79. Better be sure than sorry.
دڵنیایی باشتره‌ له‌ په‌شیمانی

واته‌: له‌ شوێنێكی ئه‌مان بژیت كه‌ ئاسایشی تێدا جێگیربێت باشتره‌ له‌وه‌ی هه‌ڵه‌شه‌یی بكه‌ی پاشان په‌شیمان بیته‌وه‌ كه‌ سوودی نییه‌، ئه‌و په‌نده‌یه‌ له‌كاتێكدا ده‌وترێت كه‌ ئامۆژگاری بكرێیت بۆ دووركه‌وتنه‌وه‌ له‌ مه‌ترسی و شوبهه‌. 

80. Better beg than steal.
سواڵ بكه‌یت باشتره‌ نه‌وه‌ك دزی بكه‌یت.

واته‌: پێویسته‌ مرۆڤ هه‌رگیز په‌نا بۆ ڕێگای لار و هه‌ڵه‌ نه‌بات بۆ پڕكردنه‌وه‌ی پێداوایستیه‌كانی خۆی به‌ڵكو پێویسته‌ به‌دوای ڕێگای تر بگه‌ڕێ هه‌تا ئه‌گه‌ر سواڵكردنیش بێت.

81. Better bend than break.
بچه‌مێیه‌وه‌ باشتره‌ له‌وه‌ی بشكێندرێی (ئه‌وه‌نده‌ ته‌ڕ مه‌به‌ بگوشرێی وه‌ ئه‌وه‌نده‌ ووشكیش مه‌به‌ بشكێندرێی)

واته‌: داری نه‌رم له‌گه‌ڵ با لارده‌بێته‌وه‌ هه‌ر بۆیه‌ سه‌لامه‌ت ده‌بێت له‌ زیان به‌ڵام داری ڕه‌ق با تێك وپێكی ده‌دات، هه‌ربۆیه‌ واباشه‌ مرۆڤ هه‌ندێ جار توند نه‌بێت له‌ بۆچوونه‌كانی و گوێ بۆ كه‌سانی تریش بگرێت.

The following are the equivalence of English proverb of Kurdish proverbs. 51. هه‌موو گیای مردنین. 51. death is the grand leveller. 52. ئیشی ئه‌مڕۆ مه‌خه‌ره‌ سبه‌ینێ. 52. defer not till tomorrow what you can do today. 53. قسه‌ بی كێژه‌ و بی بێژه‌ و بی وێژه‌. 53. deliver your words not by number but by weight. 54. به‌ته‌مای مه‌لای له‌ ئیمان مه‌گه‌ڕێ. 54. dependence is a poor trade. 55. دار كرمی له‌ خۆی نه‌بێ هه‌زار ساڵ ئه‌ژی. 55. diamonds cut diamonds. 56. ئه‌گه‌ر قسه‌كردن زیو بێت ئه‌وا نه‌كردنی زێڕه‌. 56. discourse is silver silence is gold. 57. ئه‌وه‌ی به‌ خۆتی ڕه‌وا ئه‌بینیت، بۆ خه‌ڵكیشی ڕه‌وا ببینه‌. 57.  do as you would be done by. 58. چاكه‌ بكه‌ وبیده‌ به‌ ده‌م ئاوا. 58.  do good and cast it into the sea. 59. ماسی له‌ ده‌ریادا سه‌ودا ناكرێ. 59.  do not count your chickens before they are hatched. 60. دوو گندۆره‌ به‌ ده‌ستێك هه‌ڵناگیرێن. 60. do one thing at a time.

The following are the equivalence of English proverb of Kurdish proverbs. 61. نه‌زان به‌ پێیه‌ك زانا به‌دوو پێ تێ ئه‌كه‌وێ. 61.  clever people often miss their way. 62. لافاو له‌ تكه‌تك په‌یدا ئه‌بێ. 62.  drop by drop the jug is filled. 63. په‌له‌كردن په‌شیمانی له‌دوایه‌. 63.  error is always in haste. 64. كه‌ڵه‌شێر له‌سه‌ر نوێلكی خۆی ئازایه‌. 64.  every cock is brave on his dunghill. 65. قسه‌ كه‌وته‌ زارێ كه‌وته‌ شارێ. 65.  from the lips starts the word and reaches thousands. 66. سه‌بر تاڵه‌ به‌ری شیرینه‌. 66.  everything comes to him who waits. 67. كه‌نگر و ماستیش بۆ وه‌ختی خۆی. 67.  everything is good in its season. 68. هه‌موو سه‌ره‌و ژوورێك سه‌ره‌و خوارێكی هه‌یه‌. 68.  every tide has its ebb. 69. حه‌سوود ناگا به‌ مه‌خسوود. 69.  envy never enriched any man. 70. روخساری جوان پێویستی به‌ ئارایشت نییه‌. 70.  fair faces need no paint.
