Social Expressions: Telephoning 06


These everyday-life expressions and phrases can help foreign learners acquire spoken English skills so that they can engage in fluent communication. The key expressions will be explained, supported by example, sentences and where relevant, language help notes. Leave a comment by giving an example for each phrase.


hello: you say hello when you answer the phone. Soma speaking. 
چۆنی، سۆما قسه‌ ده‌كات (ناوی خۆت ده‌ڵێی كه‌ كه‌سێك وه‌ڵامی ته‌له‌فۆنی دایه‌وه‌)

Some people simply say their telephone number when answering the phone. 
هه‌ندێك كه‌س به‌شێوه‌یه‌كی ساده‌ ژماره‌ی ته‌له‌فۆنی ئه‌و كه‌سه‌ ده‌ڵێن كه‌ ته‌له‌فۆنی بۆ كردوون له‌و كاته‌ی وه‌ڵامی ته‌له‌فۆن ده‌ده‌نه‌وه‌.

You also say hello to the person who answers the phone when you are making a phone call: 
هه‌روه‌ها تۆش ده‌ڵێی چۆنی كاتێك ته‌له‌فۆن بۆ یه‌كێك ده‌كه‌ی.

In more formal business calls it is more common to say good morning or good afternoon, depending on the time of day. 
له‌ ته‌له‌فۆنی بازرگانی زۆر ڕه‌سمیدا ئه‌وه‌ زۆر باوتره‌ بڵێی به‌یانیت باش یان پاش نیوه‌ڕۆت باش، به‌ گوێره‌ی ئه‌و كاته‌ی ڕۆژ كه‌ ته‌له‌فۆن ده‌كه‌ی.
