English Proverbs 91 - 93


The following are common English proverbs and short meanings and explanations in Kurdish, leave a comment if you know an equivalent Kurdish proverb for each.

91. Better starve free than to be a fat slave.
برسیت بێت و ئازاد بیت باشتره‌ له‌وه‌ی كه‌ قه‌ڵه‌و بیت به‌ڵام به‌نده‌.

واته‌: پێویسته‌ مرۆڤ ئازادی و سه‌ربه‌رزی و ڕێزی خۆی بپارێزێ هه‌تا ئه‌گه‌ر تووشی ناخۆشی و چه‌رمه‌سه‌ریش بێت، ئه‌وه‌ زۆر باشتره‌ له‌وه‌ی به‌ سووكی و زه‌لیلی بژی با له‌ خۆشگوزه‌رانی و خۆشیشدابیت.

92. Better suffer ill than do ill.
خۆڕاگری بنوێنی به‌رامبه‌ر سته‌م باشتره‌ له‌وه‌ی سته‌م بكه‌ی.

واته‌: پێویسته‌ مرۆڤ سته‌م له‌ كه‌س نه‌كات یان ده‌ست درێژی نه‌كاته‌ سه‌ر كه‌سانی تر، مرۆڤ ببێته‌ قوربانی سته‌م باشتره‌ نه‌وه‌ك خۆی سته‌مكار بێت.

93. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know.
شه‌یتانێك كه‌ بیناسی باشتره‌ له‌ شه‌یتانێك كه‌ نه‌یناسی.

واته‌: ئه‌و زه‌حمه‌تیانه‌ی كه‌ ئاگاداری پێیان و خۆت بۆیان ئاماده‌كردووه‌ باشتره‌ له‌و مه‌ترسیانه‌ی كه‌ پێیان نازانی و ناتوانی خۆتیان بۆ ئاماده‌بكه‌ی بۆئه‌وه‌ی ڕووبه‌ڕوویان ببیه‌وه‌. بۆنموونه‌ له‌وانه‌یه‌ له‌گه‌ڵ سه‌رۆكی كاره‌كه‌ت مورتاح نه‌بیت به‌ڵام ده‌زانی كه‌ چۆن خۆتی له‌گه‌ڵ بگونجێنی، به‌ڵام ئه‌گه‌ر یه‌كێكی تر هاته‌ شوێنی مامه‌له‌كردن له‌گه‌ڵی قورستره‌.

The following are the equivalence of English proverb of Kurdish proverbs. 41. مانگ دیاره‌، حه‌وجه‌ی به‌ په‌نجه‌ نییه‌. 41. brave actions never want trumpet. 42. كردن هه‌تا مردن. 42. business is the salt of life. 43. مشتێك نموونه‌ی خه‌روارێكه‌. 43. by the little is known the much. 44. ده‌ستی ماندوو له‌سه‌ر زگی تێره‌. 44. care and diligence bring luck. 45. نه‌ ئه‌وه‌نده‌ ووشك به‌ بشكێیت، نه‌ ئه‌وه‌نده‌ش ته‌ڕ به‌ بگوشرێیت. 45. common fame is seldom to blame. 46. زمانت به‌ندكه‌ تا به‌ندی نه‌كردووی. 46. confine your tongue lest it confine you. 47. سه‌بر كلیلی ده‌رگای خۆشییه‌. 47. content is better than riches. 48. خووی شیری هه‌تا پیری. 48. crooked by nature is never made straight by education. 49. پێ قه‌د به‌ڕه‌ی خۆت ڕاكێشه‌. 49. cut your coat according to your cloth. 50. مریشك هێلكه‌ش ئه‌كا وڕیقنه‌ش ئه‌كا. 50. danger and delight grow on one stalk.

The following are the equivalence of English proverb of Kurdish proverbs. 61. نه‌زان به‌ پێیه‌ك زانا به‌دوو پێ تێ ئه‌كه‌وێ. 61.  clever people often miss their way. 62. لافاو له‌ تكه‌تك په‌یدا ئه‌بێ. 62.  drop by drop the jug is filled. 63. په‌له‌كردن په‌شیمانی له‌دوایه‌. 63.  error is always in haste. 64. كه‌ڵه‌شێر له‌سه‌ر نوێلكی خۆی ئازایه‌. 64.  every cock is brave on his dunghill. 65. قسه‌ كه‌وته‌ زارێ كه‌وته‌ شارێ. 65.  from the lips starts the word and reaches thousands. 66. سه‌بر تاڵه‌ به‌ری شیرینه‌. 66.  everything comes to him who waits. 67. كه‌نگر و ماستیش بۆ وه‌ختی خۆی. 67.  everything is good in its season. 68. هه‌موو سه‌ره‌و ژوورێك سه‌ره‌و خوارێكی هه‌یه‌. 68.  every tide has its ebb. 69. حه‌سوود ناگا به‌ مه‌خسوود. 69.  envy never enriched any man. 70. روخساری جوان پێویستی به‌ ئارایشت نییه‌. 70.  fair faces need no paint.
